| At least at St Andrews the fairways are much wider," Frost, who played his last British Open at St Andrews in 2000, said. "It's great to be able to plan my year knowing that I'm going to the Open.
"It's a fantastic feeling winning here because you never become too good for the game of golf." This is the first of five international qualifying tournaments, which were introduced by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in 2004 to make it more convenient and less expensive for overseas-based players to qualify for the world's oldest major championship. |

| British Open qualifier
Thu, 13 Jan 2005 Veteran David Frost set a new course record seven under par 65 at Atlantic Beach GC on Thursday to take the halfway lead at the African leg of the International Final Qualifying for the Open Championship. Frost took advantage of unexpectedly benign seaside conditions to find seven birdies and avoid dropping a shot to reach the halfway mark one shot ahead of Louis Oosthuizen and Switzerland's Andre Bossert. The top three players at the end of tomorrow's second round will gain automatic entry into the 134th Open Championship at St. Andrews in Scotland. |
