| CINCINNATI -- T.J. Houshmandzadeh isn't one for false modesty.
He's not going to say he derives no personal satisfaction from his gaudy statistics. But the Cincinnati Bengals receiver says he would enjoy them a lot more if his team weren't 2-5. "I'm not going to lie to you," Houshmandzadeh said. "When you do well individually, it's cool. To be honest, it really is. But at the end of the day, we're losing. So it's kind of like you're not doing enough. "Michael Jordan and Kobe (Bryant) can score 35, but if they lose, it doesn't matter. You want to do well individually, but when you're losing, it's all for nothing." Houshmandzadeh leads NFL receivers with 58 catches. He's on pace for 133. Only Indianapolis' Marvin Harrison (143 catches in 2002) has had more in a season. Houshmandzadeh has had a touchdown catch in every game this season and has a total of nine, behind only New England's Randy Moss -- not bad for the 28th receiver taken in the 2001 draft. To this day, it bothers Houshmandzadeh that he went that late. Seventh-rounders never forget. Now he believes he's the best receiver in football. "I can do everything," he said. "I can go short. I can run (precise) routes. I can go deep." Houshmandzadeh has played in the shadow of Chad Johnson for most of his career. Coming into this season, his reputation had grown to the point where he was regarded as one of the best No. 2 receivers in football. He has transcended that status now. |

| Lewis said the Bengals are concerned about the time frame of Websters ability to come back and start at middle linebacker. Websters agent has said his client will be ready by training camp and not the spring camps as he recovers from a torn patella tendon in his kneecap, and the Bengals have contacted some free-agent inside backers.
Thats a concern. We have to make a decision based on Nate before we get to training camp, so that is a concern, Lewis said. We dont know. Well address it the best we can that I feel helps the team. Ravens middle backer Ed Hartwell doesnt look like hes headed here. Agent Harold Lewis wouldnt rule out the Bengals on Wednesday night because they have been in contact and last talked to them four or five days ago. But Lewis indicated that the Falcons and another team are the frontrunners and that a decision could be made as soon as Thursday. The Bengals are at the stage where to make a deal in excess of $2 million per year, they would have to cut similar salaries to make room under the $85.5 million cap. Lewis said he hoped to get deals with Braham, Powell and Mitchell in the next 10 days. Powell and Mitchell would be near minimum salaries, and Braham would figure to be at about $1 million. CB Jeff Burris (concussion) hasn't been cleared, but he's confident he'll be ready for next week when the Bengals return home to play the 49ers. He practiced Wednesday pretty much for the first time since leaving the Houston game Nov. 9 a week after suffering his second concussion in a month. Cincinnati Bengals Tickets. |
