| Despite success, Browns' Anderson remains grounded:
BEREA, Ohio -- Here is a little-known fact: Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson has more touchdown passes this season than Peyton Manning. Anderson insists he's not playing for numbers or respect, but he is achieving both in a breakout season. A third-year pro who was expected to warm the starter's seat for rookie Brady Quinn, Anderson is becoming a hot name as Cleveland (4-3) wins games. Anderson will become a restricted free agent at the end of the season and could draw a lot of interest if he continues to play at a high level. For now, he wants to avoid the individual attention. "This team is (earning respect)," he said. "The more games we win and the more we go out there every week and prove to everybody that we're a better football team, then the team as a whole will gain respect." Anderson is second in the NFL with 17 touchdown passes, including six in the past two games. Told he had four more TDs than Manning (13), Anderson shrugged it off. "Yeah, well, we don't have as many wins as they do," he quipped. "So it doesn't mean anything." |

| On the first day of Senior Bowl practices last January, Howard cornerback Ronald Bartell looked a lot like a kid from Howard who had been thrown into the fire against the nations best.
By the end of the week, Bartell belonged. And his NFL mission is similar. Bartell has good size (a shade under 6-foot-1 and 211 pounds) and plenty of raw ability. With a little seasoning and admitted work on improving his technique, he figures he can find an NFL home and have a long, productive career. Bartell doesnt have return ability like Williams and Miller, but he is the oft-coveted big corner and could also play safety. I can play any position in the secondary, Bartell said. That's what makes me so attractive. My size and speed and athleticism allow me to play any position in the secondary. I have no objections to playing corner or safety. I'm bigger than most of the corners and faster than all of the safeties (in this draft). And faster than most of the corners, too. Bartell ran the 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds at the combine, building on the momentum and confidence he gained during Senior Bowl week. I'm sure people have heard about me, he said at the combine. And if they don't know who I am, they will know pretty soon. Building Cleveland Browns Stadium on the hallowed ground of the old Municipal Stadium honored some of the greatest athletic endeavors of the 20th century. No other site could have been as appropriate as the field where Jim Brown, Paul Brown, Otto Graham, Lou Groza, Leroy Kelly, Marion Motley, Ozzie Newsome, Paul Warfield and Bill Willis established their credentials for induction into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in nearby Canton.
