French Grand Prix News:
It was billed as a 'tight contest', but when the red lights went out at Magny Cours there were only two drivers in it to win it.
Star of the Race

Michael Schumacher, Ferrari, 1st
I dont know about four stops being the right way to go, but seeing as Schumi was already ahead after the second round of pit-stops (when supposedly they opted for the fourth), you get the feeling they could have won it with three.

Doing it with four seemed unnecessarily complicated, almost like a driver on his way to work who takes a new route, not because he thinks it will be quicker, but just for a change of scenery.

To make four stops work Schumi had to negotiate his way through quite a bit of traffic at speed which he can do better than most. A peerless drive, as usual.

WINNERS

Fernando Alonso, Renault, 2nd
Considering Alonso and Trulli (supposedly) had the same machinery, Alonso made his go a lot quicker than Trullis. Jarno was a lot slower in clear air.

More French Grand Prix News:
He may have been guilty of a lapse of concentration on the last lap, but he didnt then compound it by taking himself and Barrichello out of the race.

Had Jarno enforced his position with the same kind of vigour we saw from Michael at Indy when Rubens came close, then we could have had both cars out or at least damaged. With Button waiting to take advantage and both McLarens only three seconds further back, he could have gone from 3rd to 6th or even 7th in the space of a few hundred metres.

So even if he did have a bit of a lapse, hed done a lot of hard work and brought the car home for 5 valuable points

Jenson Button, BAR-Honda, 5th
But for the anti-stall mechanism kicking in when he left the pitlane on his final pit-stop, Jensons BAR-Honda could have been third. He was alongside Trulli as he left the pits so its fair to assume that he would have been further down the road and probably far enough down it to hang onto third place.

However he looked a bit of a wuss when Barrichello came by, almost as though he was concentrating on Trulli, who was now ahead of him, and not even looking in his mirrors.
