| Sunday's German GP undoubtedly belonged to Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button, but the fastest man at the Hockenheim circuit was actually Kimi Raikkonen.
On Monday morning Raikkonen must be ruing what could have been. He crashed out of the race on lap 14, after his McLaren suffered a rear-wing failure. And no wonder he was so upset - he was the quickest driver at Hockenheim setting a time of 1:13.780. His team-mate David Coulthard who claimed fourth place on the day was eight fastest in 1:14.558. As seen often this season the day belonged to a superior Michael Schumacher. He was also the second fastest man in his Ferrari, clocking a 1:13.783. Rubens Barrichello in the other Ferrari had a disappointing day after losing his front-wing on the first lap. He was a massive 1.18 seconds slower than the World Champion. |

| Jenson Button has hailed his stunning drive at the German GP as the "best of my career" but admitted that he was still disappointed because a ten-grid slot demotion cost him his maiden F1 victory.
The Englishman was superb on Sunday at Hockenheim, charging through the field to overtake Fernando Alonso after a compelling duel with the Renault to take second place and finish just eight seconds behind Michael Schumacher. Yet there was still a tangible sense of 'what might have been' for Jenson. An engine change on Friday cost him ten grid slots, demoting the BAR from third on the qualifying timesheets to 13th on the road. While Schumi had been lauded for his qualifying lap, which earned the German his 61st pole position, the quality of Jenson's run became clear as he continued his first stint for four more laps than the Ferrari. |
