| The LSU football team put on the pads for the first time this spring, going through a two hour practice under sunny skies at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.
The Tigers, who have now gone through three of their 15 spring practices, will workout again on Tuesday before taking Wednesday off. LSU will practice on Thursday before taking the next 10 days off for spring break. LSU resumes spring practice on Tuesday, March 29. "Today was a lot more fun," LSU coach Les Miles said of Monday's workout in full pads. "It's fun being in full pads and helmets. There was some contact and enthusiasm that was missing when we didn?t have the pads on. The players seem to be responding well and they seem to be enjoying practice." LSU had spent the first two days of the spring practicing in shorts and helmets. In addition to individual and fundamental work on Monday, Miles said the Tigers spent a portion of the workout focusing on third-and-five situations, from both and offensive and defensive standpoint. "Offensively and defensive we looked at that down (third-and-five) and really instituted the thought process of a very competitive down where if the offense picks it up, it's a first down," Miles said. "If the defense stops them then offense gets the ball back and defense gets off the field. We looked at that and really introduced the thought process." Miles said Monday's practice was also much better from an execution standout. "We were much better on both sides of the ball," Miles said. "We took a step in the right direction. We didn't have as many turnovers on the offensive side of the ball. In all, it was a much cleaner practice." Miles said the Tigers will tackle for the first time this spring on Tuesday followed by a brief scrimmage to cap Thursday's workout. |

| Spring football practice is officially underway at LSU as the Tigers went through their first practice under new head coach Les Miles with a workout in shorts and helmets on Friday at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.
The Tigers practice again in shorts and helmets at 1 p.m. on Saturday before putting the pads on for the first time on Monday afternoon. "It was a lot of fun," Miles said of his first day on the field as LSU's head coach. "It was nice to get out here and get a little better and get a feel for the team. We had some good work. It was a little sloppy, not what we wanted but it's what happens in first practices. The effort was good and the enthusiasm was high." Miles said Friday's first practice was an opportunity for both the players and coaches to get accustomed to one another on the football field. "(It was about) getting the cobwebs out, getting us all on the field and all on the same page, understanding the logistics of practice and what we're going to expect of them," Miles said of the first practice. "We have new coaches with the players. I wanted to observe the whole practice, but that was kind of routine." |
