Los Angeles Clippers News:
Look at the Clippers, all grown up.

They've got wives and families and second and third homes.

They've traveled all over the country and back and can hold conversations on various topics. They're mature, seasoned, and that's ... well, that's totally weird for them.

For the longest time, and certainly in this millennium, the Clippers have been a young, up-and-coming team. But this 2007-08 squad isn't like that at all. It's a veteran team that added even more experience with Brevin Knight, Ruben Patterson and Dan Dickau.

Part of the reason for that is general manager Elgin Baylor went out and tried to fill in holes with the losses of Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston. Each has a serious injury and is expected to be out until at least February.

The Clippers are hoping their returning players, especially Corey Maggette, Chris Kaman, Sam Cassell and Cuttino Mobley, will mix with the veterans brought in to keep the team competitive despite the big injuries.

"You got to get a mix of young and old players," Baylor said. "You look for veteran players. We're certainly not too old. One thing to remember is that guys play longer nowadays. There's nutrition, exercising, therapy and treatment. Everything is so advanced."

Another eye-opener, age-wise, is that this is the fifth year of six-year contracts for Brand and Maggette. Each has a player option and could opt out of his contract after this season.

Maggette most likely will opt out. By league rules, the Clippers have the right to offer both Maggette and Brand a contract more lucrative than any other NBA team.

More Los Angeles Clippers News:
Elton Brand and the Los Angeles Clippers continue to have the Chicago Bulls ' number.

Brand sank three jumpers in the final 2 1/2 minutes as the Clippers staged a late rally to beat the Bulls for the ninth time in 10 meetings, 83-78.

A former Bull, Brand contributed 20 points and 11 rebounds and Corey Maggette added 19 points for the Clippers, who rallied from 24 points down to win at Chicago on November 13, 97-96.

In this one, the Clippers held a 15-point lead just before halftime, but Chicago erased the deficit by late in the third quarter and held a 75-70 lead after a follow shot by Eddy Curry with 5:48 remaining.

The Clippers countered with nine straight points, taking the lead for good, 77-75, on a jumper by Brand with 2:28 to play.

Brand sank a jump shot from the left baseline for a four-point lead with 1:45 left and, after a 3-pointer by rookie Ben Gordon 17 seconds later brough Chicago within one, the power forward netted a jumper from a near identical spot on the left side for an 81-78 edge with 24 seconds remaining.

"I always want to be in that position to hit those kinds of shots, but sometimes the double-teams come because I am a post player," Brand said. "When that happens, we have plenty of guys who can step up and shoot the shot. Tonight on the wing there was really no double-teaming out there, so I just wanted to hit those shots."

"(The Bulls) were trying to zone up, their bigs going to Bobby (Simmons)," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "We knew that was going to leave Elton open with the 12-to-15-footers. We did a great job of tiring them out."

After a timeout, Chicago worked the ball to Gordon, but he front-rimmed a 3-pointer with eight seconds to go. Rick Brunson grabbed the rebound, was fouled by Gordon and iced the contest with two free throws.

"It feels good to win a close one," Brand said. "Every time we execute at the end of a game on the defensive and offensive end, we win. That's the tale of the season."

Curry scored 19 points to pace the Bulls, who shot just 34 percent (31-of-90).

The Bulls connected on just 29 percent (7-of-24) in the first quarter, which ended with the Clippers ahead, 25-16. Los Angeles led by as many as 51-36 late in the second period.

"It was an early game and we just didn't come out with the right intensity that we needed to come out with," Curry said. "They, on the other hand, did a good job of coming out and jumping on us early. After all that, there was just too much to overcome."

"It all comes down to the defensive end, and we gave up 51 points in the first half, which got us in trouble," Bulls coach Scott Skiles said. "We were slow both inside and outside on defense. We did pick it up after halftime, but there were just too many things to overcome."

Chicago was concluding a three-game road trip. The Bulls won the first two contests, including a 100-97 triumph at Seattle on Friday.

"They are one of the better teams at pressuring the ball," Brunson said of the Bulls. "They fight you and make you do thing you don't want to do. That's going to go a long way in the playoffs. Tonight I thought we caught (them) when they were a little bit tired from the road trip."
