| Mariah Carey prepares her third single and video, "Shake It Off". The single is the follow-up to her massive hit, "We Belong Together". Carey says, "I think people can relate to [the song] no matter what you have to shake out - be it a bad day, a guy, a girl, whatever it is," she adds. "It's one of those fun songs, where we're not taking ourselves too seriously, but it does say something, and it is real."
In other Carey news her sister Alison is facing jail after being arrested and charged with prostitution. The singer has been asked to pay the court fees but carey and her HIV-positive sister have been feuding for years. Alison could be jailed for three months after police in Suffolk County, Long Island, a commuter suburb of New York, hired a yacht for a sting operation. Police said Alison was contacted through a website, invited to a marina and arrested after she offered to have sex. Carey plans to shoot a video for "Shake It Off", this month with a possible debut in August. |

| Question: what on earth has Mariah Carey got to do to get the sick UK gutter press off her back? I have just skimmed through about 12 tabloid newspapers (Sunday and weekday ones) looking for reviews of her Live 8 performance and do you know what mention she gets? "Her dress was too short." "The dress looked two sizes too small." "Mariah must have slimmed down to get into that dress, how disgusting, when people are starving." It continues: "She showed her true dive style by asking for a microphone stand." (How silly, a singer asking for a microphone stand.)
Ermm, hello... what about her performance? Ermm, hello... how about the fact she wiped the floor with all the other performers?! This wasn't Mariah being anything other than the true meaning of the word "diva". A bloody awesome vocalist. She sang her heart out on "Make It Happen" (the perfect song for Live 8), "Hero" and of course her monster hit "We Belong Together". This performance was nothing short of 10 out of 10. When are the press going to give this f**king awesome talent a break?! The record buying public believe in her - look where they put "We Belong Together". And they are the people buying the newspapers. These journalists are playing a dodgy game. They're slagging off an artist, who their readers believe in. Hopefully this might be rectified in the none too distant future. Hopefully someone in the gutter press will actually write something remotely constructive about Mariah. And here's a little footnote: this is how much a diva Mariah is. When most artists had drifted away, she stayed around for over fours hours to do the finale. That had nothing to do with wanting to increase album or single sales. Nothing to do with being a diva. Mariah did that because she felt it was right. How do I know? Because I know Mariah for what she really is - not for what the gutter press want us to believe. |
