| As if the Vikings don't have enough problems, they could be without their leading receiver and top defensive back for Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers.
Wide receiver Bobby Wade and cornerback Antoine Winfield were listed as questionable on the team's Friday injury report, and their status might not be known until shortly before game time. Wade, who suffered a hyperextended left knee in last week's 23-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, got in a little red-zone work during Friday's practice. Assuming there's no additional swelling, he said he felt optimistic about his chances of playing but added, "It obviously will be a real game-time decision." Winfield said the same after missing practice for the second straight day because of a strained hamstring he aggravated during Wednesday's practice. Winfield played through a bruised quadriceps muscle last season but said this is the first hamstring injury of his nine-year career. "Of course, you want to be smart about it," he said. "It's tough dealing with a hamstring. You never know. Right now, I'm just getting all the treatment I can and trying to get back out there." If Winfield can't go, rookie Marcus McCauley is expected to get the start at left cornerback just one week after losing his nickel back job to Charles Gordon. "My confidence is always high," McCauley said. "Our coaches are trying to make the best moves to help the team win. I'm not upset or anything. Things happen in Advertisement funny ways. It could happen that I have to start this week, so I'll be prepared." |

| The Vikings have agreed to terms with former Baltimore Ravens WR Travis Taylor, a former 1st-round draft choice and 10th pick overall in 2000. Taylor has started 61 of his 67 career games and has 3 career playoff starts to his credit. He leaves the Ravens as the team record holder with 204 catches and ranks 2nd in receiving yards with 2,758.
Taylor enjoyed his best season as a pro in 2002 when he had 61 catches for 869 yards and 6 TDs while starting 15 of the 16 games on the season. Taylor will catch passes in Minnesota from 3-time Pro Bowl QB Daunte Culpepper, a luxury he did not enjoy in Baltimore. During his tenure with the Ravens, Taylor played with 8 different starting QBs (Kyle Boller, Anthony Wright, Jeff Blake, Chris Redman, Randall Cunningham, Elvis Grbac, Tony Banks and Trent Dilfer). "Travis gives us a player with a tremendous amount of potential and the ability to be a game-breaker," Vikings head coach Mike Tice said. "Travis fits our offense and will complement Nate Burleson and Marcus Robinson in our passing game. He will have the chance to showcase his skills with us." The Vikings have agreed to terms with veteran Redskins free agent CB Fred Smoot. A 5-year NFL veteran, Smoot has been a key element of the Washington defense since joining the team as a 2nd-round draft choice in 2001. Regarded as one of the NFL's top CBs, Smoot has 16 career interceptions and has missed only 4 games in his 4 seasons, starting 58 of 60 career games. Smoot was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate in 2004 and was the Redskins Ed Block Courage Award winner in 03 after playing through a sternum injury. During Smoot's 4 seasons with Washington, the Redskins have ranked in the NFL's top 10 in total defense 3 times, highlighted by their #3 ranking in 2004. Smoot played his final season in Washington under legendary NFL head coach Joe Gibbs, who Vikings head coach Mike Tice played under in 1989 during his lone Redskins season. |
