| The two-time The Sun/Yuma Rotary Club Boys Swimmer of the Year has been accepted to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
"The process started at the beginning of my junior year," Malmquist said. "It was introduced to me by my father, who was in the Marine Corps for 12 years. "They have a swimming team, so I figured it would be a perfect fit." Malmquist, a senior at Yuma High, will try out for the swim team at the Naval Academy, a Division I program that competes in the Patriot League. The Midshipmen took first place in the conference this past season, their second in a row. "It's an awesome opportunity, especially since (Navy) is Division I," Malmquist said. "We swim against West Point (Army) and Bucknell, so it should be really fun." |

| To keep playing football is great," said Arguelles, who is still recovering from a knee injury suffered during the basketball season. "I looked at a couple other schools, but this was the best offer."
Klostreich receives honor Cibola's Faith Klostreich was awarded co-5A East Valley Region Athletic Director of the Year honors Wednesday, alongside Casey Eagleberger from Mesa-Red Mountain. Klostreich, the only female AD in the East Valley, was nominated by region chair Steve Hogan from Mesa High, making her eligible for the 5A Athletic Director of the Year award, which selects the top AD from the eight regions. "It's a vote of confidence," said Klostreich, who has been Cibola's AD for four years. "I've always kind of felt like an outsider coming from Yuma, but now I feel like I'm one of them." Klostreich has helped spearhead the new 5A Gila Valley Region, which begins its inaugural season next year, and includes the four Yuma Union High School District schools and Casa Grande. "Personally, I'm just stunned, because those are a tight bunch of guys," Klostreich said. "I was really touched." |
