| COLSTON CATCHING ON:
Talented Saints receiver finally back on track- New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston (12) makes a touchdown reception over San Francisco 49ers cornerback Shawntae Spencer (36) during the fourth quarter on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, in San Francisco. Marques Colston rarely flashes any sort of emotion on the field or off it. But he couldn't help but share his frustrations after missing a touchdown catch at Qwest Field in Seattle. Colston dropped a sure score with less than one minute left in the first half. He may have doubted himself, but Drew Brees didn't. He found Colston on the next play on basically the same route for a 2-yard touchdown to put the Saints up 28-7. Still, Colston couldn't hang onto the ball to throw down a solid spike. It was Colston's only catch of the game. The second-year receiver sought advice from longtime veteran David Patten, who told Colston to sharpen up his routes. Fast forward two weeks later and the mentor proved fruitful. "Yeah, (Patten) had a little bit to do with it," Colston said. "We push each other and in the end, that's what's going to make us a great receiving corps." |

| Increasing the depth at an important position, the New Orleans Saints have signed veteran LB Levar Fisher to a one-year contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.
Fisher, 6-2, 240 pounds was originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round (49th overall selection) of the 2002 NFL Draft. He is entering his third NFL season, after playing in 23 games, starting 15. He has posted 117 total tackles (77 solo), one quarterback sack, eight tackles for loss, and three pass deflections. Fisher sat out the 2004 season after his release from the Cardinals rehabilitating a knee injury. As a continued extension of the full-service regional marketing and outreach program the New Orleans Saints implemented five years ago, Executive Vice President of Administration Arnold D. Fielkow named Jake Schneider the club's new Manager of Regional Sales and Business Development. Schneider, who has worked in the Saints sales department for four seasons, will supervise the club's regional sales and business development efforts, while also overseeing satellite sales offices in Baton Rouge, Biloxi and Mobile. More than 30 percent of the Saints' ticket sales are generated through the club's regional marketing efforts, which are focused on eight distinct territories within a 350-mile radius of New Orleans. Those regions include: Baton Rouge; Acadiana, including Lafayette and Lake Charles; Bayou, including Houma and Thibodaux; Central and Northern Louisiana, including Alexandria, Monroe, Natchitoches and Shreveport; Mississippi Gulf Coast, including Hattiesburg; Central Mississippi, including Natchez, Jackson and Meridian; Mobile, Alabama, including Baldwin County; and Pensacola, Florida. "As an organization, we understand that some of our biggest supporters live outside of the greater New Orleans area, spread across the Gulf South," Fielkow said. "With that in mind, we will continue to service them in a first-class manner through our regional department in New Orleans, as well as through our satellite offices around the region." The Saints also announced the creation of a new sales and marketing position dedicated to serving the hospitality, tourism, and convention business in greater New Orleans. The position -- Hospitality Sales Supervisor -- will focus exclusively on the city's largest industry, providing streamlined, personalized customer service for those in hotels, restaurants, cruises and other service-oriented areas. Fielkow appointed Douglas Holtzman, also a four-year Saints employee, to this new position. Mora steered the Saints to three consecutive trips to the postseason from 1990 to 1992. New Orleans assembled the NFCs toughest defense in 1990 and 1991, led by one of the best linebacker units in the league. In 1992 linebackers Rickey Jackson, Vaughn Johnson, Sam Mills, and Pat Swilling all played in the Pro Bowl, and the Saints led the league in quarterback sacks. Despite its tenacious defense, the team lost in the first round each time it made the playoffs. At the end of the 1996 season, former Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka replaced Mora. Ditka was fired after the 1999 season. The New Orleans Saints have never played in the Super Bowl. |
