| JACOBS HAS ANSWERED HIS DOUBTERS:
There had to have been some doubt -- even if only a little bit -- about whether Brandon Jacobs would be able to make a smooth step from being Tiki Barber's understudy the past two years to being his full-time replacement this season. Good luck finding anyone who'll admit having any such doubt about Jacobs now. Jacobs, the Giants' massive, third-year running back, was named yesterday the NFC's Offensive Player of the Month. And if you believe the Giants coaches, they're not surprised at all that Jacobs could earn himself that kind of honor in what was, essentially, his first month as an NFL starter. "He's doing exactly what we expected," running back coach Jerald Ingram said yesterday of Jacobs, who has had three 100-yard rushing games in his five starts this season. "It's kind of what I thought," offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said when asked whether Jacobs was meeting or exceeding expectations. Despite missing nearly four games with a knee injury suffered on his sixth carry of the season opener against Dallas on Sept. 9, Jacobs has 450 yards on 80 carries, for an average of 5.6 yards per carry. As the Giants went 4-0 in October, he had a league-leading 424 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He had a career-high 131 yards last Sunday in the Giants' 13-10 victory against the Miami Dolphins. "You are never certain, but I think you can look, gauge and have a pretty good sense of who can do what," Gilbride said. "He just hadn't been given the opportunity, but it looked like he certainly had the physical attributes you're looking for, not only with his size, but he has good speed. Once he turns the corner and gets north and south, there aren't a lot of DBs that are anxious to tackle him." |

| We have had a history of finishing deals quickly with Drew Rosenhaus, Accorsi said. Hes a closer, doesnt waste time and gets to the point.
Because of his quiet nature, Burress has occasionally been portrayed as arrogant or aloof. The Giants are convinced the depictions are inaccurate, and that Burress is a reserved person who doesnt reveal much of himself. They like the work ethic he will bring to Giants Stadium. The thing I think is most impressive about him is that he knows full well he has a lot to improve on, Coughlin said, and hes looking forward to the opportunity of doing that. Burress can be flamboyant on the field, but insists he is reserved off of it. I think that plays a role in my perception as a person, he said. As far as some of the things that were said about me, it was kind of shocking to me. I never rubbed anybody the wrong way. I sat back and listened to what was going on. I dont have too much to say. People dont really know me, and I dont give people a chance to know me, because I dont talk a lot. I sit back and observe. I guess Im going to have to open up my mouth a little bit more. I have a feeling they (the media) are going to make me do that. I guess thats how life is were all put in positions where we have to go out and prove ourselves on a daily basis. I plan on doing that and coming in here, having an impact and making the guys around me better. Hopefully we can come together and accomplish our goal, which is to win a world championship.
