Philadelphia 76ers News:
It's safe to say that the prediction 76ers center Samuel Dalembert made when he returned to practice Saturday doesn't match the way many others view the team's chances this season."My prediction is we are going to make the playoffs," Dalembert said.

While Dalembert and his teammates are professing confidence, few seem to agree.
Sports Illustrated has picked the Sixers to finish last in the Eastern Conference. A writer for ESPN.com predicted they would have just 21 wins.
Fresh off a 2-5 preseason, the Sixers open their season tomorrow in Toronto against the defending Atlantic Division champion Raptors.

"Every day we talk about [the predictions] as a team," Dalembert said. "We see the situation."

And it's not pleasant.

Coming off a 35-47 season, the Sixers watched many Eastern Conference opponents - such as Boston and New York - make high-profile off-season moves. Thus came the dire predictions.

"A lot of people are counting us out and in last place," guard Willie Green said after yesterday's practice at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. "If that is not motivation for us, then I don't know what can motivate us." -Swingman Kyle Korver said he hadn't been bothered by the dire predictions.

Better ones are "something we have to earn," Korver said. "There is no reason people should be talking about us or picking us high right now. We haven't proved anything. Not a single player on our team has proved anything yet." That said, Korver insisted that the Sixers would enjoy a successful season.

Sixers fans have known for a long time that Allen Iverson was one of the toughest athletes in sports. USA Today helped to legitimize that claim by naming him the No. 2 toughest athlete in professional sports in a Feb. 18, 2004 feature. The Sixers All-Star guard has been sidelined with a litany of ailments in his proffessional career, but has always seemed to bounce back stronger than before. In 2004-05, the list has grown by two, most recently a right ankle sprain that kept him out of the Minnesota game on Jan. 7, 2005. Here's a breakdown, body part by body part (and this is only the list that has caused him to miss games)The Sacramento Kings traded Chris Webber to the Philadelphia 76ers late Wednesday night, parting ways with the cornerstone of their renaissance in a stunning six-player deal that dramatically reshaped both teams.

The Sixers acquired Webber, one of the NBA's elite power forwards and a five-time All-Star, along with reserve forwards Matt Barnes and Michael Bradley. Philadelphia sent forwards Brian Skinner, Kenny Thomas and Corliss Williamson to the Kings, who finally divested themselves of Webber's contract after years of rumors and speculation.

Geoff Petrie, the Kings' president of basketball operations, acquired Webber from Washington before the 1999 season in a deal that transformed Sacramento into an interesting, contending team. The Kings then re-signed Webber to a seven-year deal worth approximately $127 million in 2001.

Webber has played exceptionally well in recent weeks, averaging 21.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game -- though he isn't the athlete he was before undergoing serious knee surgery after the 2003 playoffs.

''The message that we're sending is that we went out and got a player who's averaging 21 and 10 to go along with our young players,'' Philadelphia president Billy King said.

PACERS 93, HEAT 91: Jermaine O'Neal scored all three baskets in overtime, including a turnaround jumper from the baseline with 11 seconds remaining, and host Indiana beat a Shaq-less Miami.
