| Pocono 500 News: |
| The Pocono 500 is the first of two stock car races held at the Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, on the NASCAR Nextel Cup schedule in mid-June, the other being the Pennsylvania 500, usually held in July.
Both the Pocono 500 and Pennsylvania 500 are unique in that they have no title sponsor, a decision made by track management in response to feedback from fans. Neither race has had a title sponsor since 1996. |

| Johnson retains his place in the Nextel Cup standings -- leading by 82 points over Greg Biffle.
Greg Biffle finished third followed by Mark Martin, Kasey Kahne, Brian Vickers, Michael Waltrip, Dave Blaney, Scott Riggs and Elliott Sadler to round out the top-ten. Pole sitter Ryan Newman managed to nurse his car home to 14th place despite handling problems. Atlanta Motor Speedway has never been kind to Newman in a race at this track and it didn't get any better this week. We struggled all day," sighed Newman, "It just seemed like we couldnt get a handle on it. We made a lot of changes, but we didnt have any grip all day. The guys didnt give up. We kept making changes and finally got the Lucky Dog. We ended up on the lead lap somehow. Thats the first time weve finished on the lead lap in the first four races. Im proud of the guys and well put this one behind us and go on to Bristol. Were up to sixth in the standings, and thats cool. Itll be even cooler if we can stay there and keep moving up the ladder. It was an usual day for Bobby Labonte, driver of the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet. He finished 37th and completed only 266 of the 325 laps. To make matters worse, on Lap 158, Labonte was struck in the hand by a piece of debris from the No. 97 car of Kurt Busch. When Busch experienced a tire problem, Labonte stuck his left hand out the window in order to signal to the cars behind him to slow down. While his hand was out the window, a piece of debris struck the front of his hand. He was uninjured. |
