San Marino Grand Prix News:
Michael Schumacher may have lost out to Jenson Button when it came to setting the fastest lap time during qualifying for the San Marino GP, but the German had the edge during the 62-lap race.
Schumacher topped the table by 0.790 seconds over second quickest man Jenson Button. The Ferrari driver clocked a best time of 1:20.411 during the tenth lap of the race, while Button's best was set on lap 28, two laps after he'd refuelled his BAR, and was a 1:21.201.

Both drivers outstripped their team-mates with Schumacher beating Rubens Barrichello by 1.462 seconds and Button topping Takuma Sato by 0.728 seconds.

Fernando Alonso recorded the third best time three laps from the end of the race, edging out his Renault team-mate Jarno Trulli by a mere 0.016 seconds. The Renault duo were the closest matched team-mates.

Although Ralf Schumacher came second to Juan Pablo Montoya in both qualifying and the race, the German was ahead of his Williams partner on the fastest lap table. Ralf's best was a 1:21.689, while Montoya managed a 1:21.870.

More San Marino Grand Prix News:

Schumi and Montoya clashed on the first lap of the race as the Williams challenged for second place. The Ferrari driver slammed the door shut and forced Montoya on to the grass.

Although Montoya eventually took third place, he was still seething about the incident in the post-race press conference, accusing Schumacher of a deliberate and illegal block.

"Michael had a poor start, he was slow, I went to pass him and he closed the door twice then came straight at me and hit me and put me on the grass," said Montoya. "He hit me on the side but there was no damage."

"It is disappointing to have racing like that and I will be surprised if he gets away with it. I understand he has to defend his position but how far can he be allowed to do this?

"He said he didn't see me, he didn't know I was there. He probably forgot to look. I got in front of him before Tosa. He didn't see me? He must be blind or stupid."

"Look at Indianapolis last year - there I was given a drive-through and that cost me the championship. I would be champion now - and he gets away with it. The rules are not fair. They should be for Ferrari and everyone else."

Schumacher, though, isn't being drawn into a public spat. All he had to say about the incident was: "It was very slippery on my side of the grid and I was fighting with Juan. Obviously I wanted to avoid him getting by, because I knew I was going to get faster, and I wanted to stay in touch with Jenson."
