| Stanford University announced the hiring of Clayton White as its defensive backs coach today. The hiring of White completes the football coaching staff for the 2007 season.
"Clayton White has enjoyed success as a secondary coach everywhere he has been," remarked first year head coach Jim Harbaugh. "He is a dynamic young coach and an excellent recruiter. We are thrilled to have Clayton join our staff." "We plan to install an attacking style defense and Clayton has experience working in that system," added defensive coordinator Scott Shafer. "We are very excited to add Clayton's energy and enthusiasm to our staff." White spent the 2006 campaign as the football defensive backs coach at Western Michigan, where he helped coach the Broncos to an 8-5 record and an appearance in the 2007 International Bowl played in Toronto. He coached on a defense that led the nation with 24 interceptions and 3.54 sacks per game, while ranking tied for second with 37 turnovers gained, tied for sixth in yards rushing yards allowed per game (76.1) and seventh in turnover margin (+0.92). He spent the previous two seasons (2004-05) busy as the defensive backs coach, a special teams assistant and recruiting coordinator at Western Carolina. The Catamounts led the nation in pass defense, ranked fifth in passing efficiency defense and 18th in overall defense in his final season. He also coached a pair of defensive backs (Francis Brown and Primus Glover) to First Team All-SOCON honors. |
