| Commissioner Michael Tranghese announced that the BIG EAST Conference football membership has unanimously approved the use of instant replay during league games beginning in 2005. The announcement followed discussions at the conferences annual Chief Executive Officers and Athletic Directors Meeting earlier in March.
As announced earlier, we have done significant research and analysis into the use of instant replay for our conference football games for the coming season, said Tranghese. Our football coaches and athletic directors endorsed the concept of instant replay earlier this year. Given that charge, our office investigated a number of possible technical options this past winter. We are pursuing what we think will be the best possible system for the coming season. During the mens basketball tournament in New York, the BIG EAST Conference office also conducted a separate meeting in which each institutions Directors of Football Operations were shown a demonstration of the conference instant replay system. Associate Commissioner Nick Carparelli and Supervisor of Officials John Soffey will continue to work with each school during spring practice as well as the summer months in order to ensure that each of its venues is properly prepared to handle the logistics associated with instant replay. |

| Syracuse has a long, tradition-rich history, Jackson said. After working so closely with Daryl at Southern Cal, this is a natural progression. His energy is great and I believe in his ideas for this program. The time spent here already has solidified everything I believe about Syracuse. It is a warm, friendly city with a college feel. This is a great move professionally and personally.
In 1998 Jackson was named football operations assistant for the New England Patriots. He assisted the director of operations with team travel, payroll distribution, organization of training camp, and day-to-day operations of the team. He also completed statistical and film evaluation projects for the head coach and assisted the special teams coordinator in quality control and game analysis. In 2001 Jackson was promoted to special teams assistant coach. A 1995 graduate of Colby College, Jackson was a three-year starter at defensive back and punt returner for the varsity football squad and earned his BA in government. While completing his undergraduate degree, Jackson spent two summers as a training camp intern for the New England Patriots. He earned a masters degree in public policy from Trinity College in 1997, while serving as a football graduate fellow for the school. In addition to being coaching the offensive backfield and special teams for the football program, he also served as the assistant head coach for the womens softball program. Jackson and his wife, Tricia, have three children, Grace, Hannah and Kevin. |
