| Earl Clark put the Cardinals back ahead for good with a three-pointer, and the Huskies inched within two, at 65-63, when A.J. Price (Amityville, N.Y.) made a driving lay-up with 1:52 remaining, but Sosa dashed the Huskies’ hopes with a long three-pointer, and the Huskies could get no closer than four the rest of the way.
For the fifth-consecutive contest, Dyson was the offensive star for the Huskies. He had a game-high 23 points, marking the third time in four games he has scored at least 20 points. He made seven of 13 shots, including six of eight from long range, and he scored 14 points after intermission. Adrien added 16 points for the Huskies, his 23rd double-figure scoring effort of the campaign. Also in double figures for the Huskies were Price, who scored 11 points, and Craig Austrie (Stamford, Conn.), who chipped in with 10 points. Williams led Louisville with 17 points, while Derrick Caracter scored 16, all before intermission. While the 69 points represents the most scored by the Huskies in their last eight games, the 76 scored by Louisville was the most given up since Providence scored 84 against the Huskies on January 27. Connecticut entered the game leading the nation in field-goal percentage defense, but Louisville shot over 48 percent for the game, just the fourth time this season a team has shot better than 45 percent against the Huskies. Freshman center Hasheem Thabeet (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) had five blocked shots and a team-best seven rebounds for the Huskies. Caracter, who saw significant playing time in the first half after Louisville’s starting center David Padgett picked up his second foul, scored six points in a late 9-1 run that helped the Cardinals take a 38-29 lead at the half. |
