| Three nationally televised games, including a pair at Rentschler Field, highlight the 2005 University of Connecticut football schedule, announced on Friday. The Huskies will play a pair of home weeknight games, four home BIG EAST Conference games and face six teams that appeared in a bowl game last fall. UConn will have the advantage of playing six games at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, which has been sold out for eight of the Huskies 13 games played there, including each of the last six.
This is a very challenging schedule which will have us face six bowl teams, UConn head coach Randy Edsall says. It is demanding from start to finish. We will play on the very first permissible date (Sept. 1) and the season will run all the way to the very last day you can play in the regular season (Dec. 3). Of course, we also hope to play even later than that in a bowl game as well. We will have to be very smart about how we handle practice throughout the season so that we can stay fresh. Although long in terms of time, I like that this schedule is spread out where you have short spurts of games, and then weeks off for a breather throughout the season. You dont have to play too many weeks in a row, which can wear down your team. Being selected for national television three times is a tremendous credit to the coaches and the players - both this years and last years - for building a strong foundation. To have that kind of an opportunity this early in our development as a program is tremendous. This will give us eight ESPN or ESPN2 appearances now over the past two years, an extraordinary number for a program with our brief Division I-A history. This exposure continues to enhance the stature of our program and the UConn brand name. It had a great positive impact on our recruiting this past winter and will continue to do so. |

| Randy Edsall and the University of Connecticut football coaching staff are hosting their annual free high school coaching clinic this weekend in Storrs. Over 700 coaches from as far away as Maine, Maryland and Quebec have come to observe first hand how the Husky staff conducts practice and teaches fundamentals, an area stressed by the Husky staff as it has made its meteoric rise through the Division I-A ranks in its three short years competing at the nation's highest level. The group is attending UConn's spring workouts on Friday and Saturday with demonstrations at Gampel Pavilion, after each day's on-field practice session, where the UConn staff shows what they do to teach basic fundamentals of the game. Steve Slade offers the following views from Friday's half of the event.
